Former Spain defender Sergio Ramos has led a consortium that has completed the purchase of Spanish club Sevilla FC – home to Super Eagles duo Akor Adams and Ejuke – in a deal reported to be worth €444m
According to The Athletic, sources said an agreement in principle was reached by all parties on Tuesday, paving the way for the former Real Madrid captain to begin a new chapter with the club where his professional career started.
Ramos, who is regarded as one of Sevilla’s most recognisable academy graduates, began his football journey with the club before establishing himself in the senior side. After two seasons with Sevilla’s first team, he joined Real Madrid CF in 2005 and went on to enjoy a highly successful spell in the Spanish capital.
The defender spent 16 years at Real Madrid, winning numerous honours, before later joining Paris Saint-Germain for a two-year stint. Ramos eventually returned to Sevilla in 2023 in what was seen as an emotional homecoming for the player, who has long been known as a boyhood supporter of the Andalusian side.
During the 2023-24 campaign, Ramos featured 37 times for Sevilla and scored seven goals from defence. Across his two spells at the club, the 2010 World Cup winner made a total of 87 appearances.
The 39-year-old has been without a club since leaving Mexican side CF Monterrey in December, but his latest involvement with Sevilla signals a significant role off the pitch as the club attempts to stabilise both financially and competitively.
Sevilla are currently enduring a difficult season in La Liga. The club sit 13th in the table and are only three points above the relegation zone with three matches remaining.
The arrival of a new ownership structure led by Ramos is expected to mark the beginning of a rebuilding process for the seven-time Europa League winners, who have struggled to replicate the consistency that previously made them one of Spain’s most competitive sides.
Nigeria internationals Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke remain part of the Sevilla squad as the club approaches the closing stages of the campaign.
Adams has been Sevilla’s leading scorer in the league this season, registering nine goals and contributing three assists in 29 La Liga appearances. The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the club’s most important attacking players during a challenging season.
Ejuke, meanwhile, has recorded two goal contributions in 25 league matches. The winger recently achieved another milestone after starting back-to-back league fixtures for the first time since August 2025, having previously struggled for regular starts.
Sevilla will now hope to secure their top-flight status over the remaining games of the season as attention increasingly turns towards the impact Ramos and his consortium could have on the club’s future.
The takeover represents a major moment in Sevilla’s recent history, with one of the club’s most celebrated former players now helping to guide its direction away from the pitch.
