Ivory Coast’s Wilfried Singo pushes for Galatasaray return ahead of Fenerbahçe derby

Ivory Coast defender Wilfried Singo is eager to return to action for Galatasaray in Monday’s Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe after recovering from injury, although the club’s coaching staff remain cautious about bringing him back too soon.

The 25-year-old has reportedly informed the technical staff of his desire to be available for the highly anticipated fixture, according to Turkish newspaper Milliyet.

Singo has been sidelined for several weeks and is keen to contribute as Galatasaray prepare for one of the most significant matches of their season.

However, his availability will depend on his physical condition and whether he has regained enough match fitness to cope with the demands of the derby.

The defender had previously indicated, before the match against Lille, that he wanted to return to training gradually following his injury.

His determination to feature against Fenerbahçe presents Galatasaray with a decision over whether to include him immediately or allow him more time to recover fully.

According to Milliyet, the club’s technical staff are reluctant to rush the Ivory Coast international back into competitive action because of concerns that an early return could trigger another injury and result in a longer spell on the sidelines.

The coaching staff are therefore expected to assess his fitness carefully before deciding whether he can play a part in Monday’s encounter.

Singo’s potential return has generated optimism among supporters, with social media reactions highlighting the importance of having the defender available again.

Some supporters have expressed confidence in his physical readiness and the difference he could make to the team.

One social media post described the defender as “exactly the kind of defender who will change the dynamic of our team”, while also expressing hope that he would avoid another injury and recover his consistency.

However, such reactions do not confirm that Singo has been cleared to play or that he will be included in the starting line-up. The final decision remains dependent on the club’s assessment of his condition.

For Galatasaray, the challenge is to balance the importance of the derby with the need to protect a player who has spent several weeks recovering from injury.

While Singo wants to be involved, the club must determine whether he is ready for the intensity of a fixture of this magnitude.

The Ivory Coast international’s desire to return also comes as he looks to resume his contribution to the Turkish side after his enforced absence.

A successful comeback would give him an opportunity to regain rhythm and consistency, but another injury could prolong his time away from the pitch.

Monday’s meeting with Fenerbahçe is therefore an important test for Galatasaray, both in terms of the rivalry and their decision-making over Singo’s fitness.
