Emiliano Martinez to undergo surgery after jaw injury in Chelsea win

Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will undergo an operation after suffering a jaw injury during his side’s 2-0 Premier League victory away to Everton.

The Argentina international was replaced in the second half after a collision in which he hit heads with an opponent.

Journalist Gaston Edul reports that Martinez is conscious in hospital. A CT scan of his head, along with examinations of his back and neck, produced positive results.

However, Martinez has been diagnosed with an injury to his jaw and will require surgery.

Chelsea’s win at Everton leaves Xabi Alonso’s side fourth in the English championship table.
