Morocco and Niger will play both of their November 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat after agreeing on a venue arrangement prompted by Niger’s inability to host the fixture at home.
The Moroccan and Nigerien football federations have finalised plans for the two meetings, with the Atlas Lions scheduled to face Niger on 13 November before the sides meet again four days later, on 17 November.
The first match will count as Morocco’s home fixture in the third round of qualifying, while the return encounter will be played at the same stadium in the fourth round.
The arrangement was necessary because Niger do not have a stadium available that meets the Confederation of African Football’s requirements for hosting international matches. The two federations subsequently agreed that Rabat would provide the venue for both encounters.
As a result, Morocco will have the advantage of playing on familiar ground in both matches, despite being designated the away side for the second meeting.
The unusual arrangement presents an opportunity for the Atlas Lions to strengthen their position in the qualifying campaign as they pursue a place at the 2027 continental finals.
Morocco look to extend winning start
Morocco head into the November fixtures at the top of Group A after winning their opening two matches.
The North African side have collected six points from victories over Gabon and Lesotho, winning both games by a 2-0 scoreline.
Those results have given the Moroccan team a positive start to the campaign and placed them in a strong position ahead of the double-header against Niger.
The coaching staff will be looking to maintain that momentum when the teams meet in Rabat, with victories in both fixtures potentially moving Morocco closer to securing qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The opportunity to play both matches at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex could also prove valuable, allowing the team to avoid the challenge of travelling to a different venue for the return encounter.
However, Morocco will still need to produce strong performances in both games to take full advantage of the arrangement and maintain their lead in the group.
Niger, meanwhile, will face the challenge of playing both fixtures at a venue where Morocco are familiar with the surroundings and expected to receive strong support from their home crowd.
November fixtures offer Morocco chance to strengthen position
The November international break is expected to provide Morocco’s coaching staff with an important opportunity to assess the squad’s condition and prepare for the two encounters.
Maintaining the players’ fitness and ensuring the team is ready for both matches will be important as Morocco attempt to continue their winning run.
The coaching staff will also be keen to avoid unnecessary complications in the remaining qualifying rounds by collecting as many points as possible during the double-header.
Moroccan supporters will be hoping their team can build on the victories over Gabon and Lesotho and use the two matches against Niger to strengthen their position at the top of Group A.
The fact that both games will take place in Rabat adds further interest to the fixtures, as Morocco will have the benefit of familiar surroundings even when Niger are officially the home team for the return match.
With six points already secured, the Atlas Lions will enter the November meetings looking to continue their progress towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
