Uganda has confirmed its travelling delegation for the 2026 TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, with head coach Laryea Kingstone unveiling the squad and technical team ahead of the continental competition.
The Uganda U-17 national side, commonly known as the Cubs, will compete in Group B of the tournament alongside Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon and DR Congo.
The competition is scheduled to take place in Morocco from 18 May to 2 June 2026. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals and also secure places at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Two additional nations will also advance through play-offs.
Uganda heads into the tournament facing a difficult challenge in a group containing some of Africa’s established footballing nations. The Cubs will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage and compete for one of the available places at the global finals.
The travelling delegation will be led by Dan Obote, a member of the Executive Committee of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations.
Coach Kingstone will oversee the technical bench during the competition, assisted by Ibrahim Juma Sadam and Bengo Steven.
The goalkeeping department will be handled by Mugabi Mugabi, while Adjei-Grant Abbas has been named as video analyst.
Performance responsibilities will fall to Ayobo Felix, with Katende Jerome Raymond appointed as team manager for the tournament.
The backroom staff also includes Tumusime Vicent as safeguarding official, Nakabago Emmanuel as team doctor and Gumisiriza Michael Kamu as physiotherapist.
Other officials travelling with the delegation are Senfuka Patrick, who will serve as kit manager, and Musiime Conrad as media officer.
The U-17 Africa Cup of Nations is regarded as one of the continent’s leading youth football competitions and provides teams with a pathway to the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Uganda’s participation in the tournament represents another opportunity for the country to showcase emerging football talent on the continental stage. With qualification for the World Cup also at stake, the Cubs will be seeking strong performances against their Group B opponents in Morocco.
The tournament format means only the leading teams in each group will automatically advance to the knockout phase, increasing the importance of every group match. Uganda will therefore need positive results against Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and DR Congo to keep alive hopes of progressing further in the competition and securing a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
