Relebohile Mofokeng’s market value has reportedly doubled to €6 million after the South African winger made an impressive start to life with Royal Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.
The 21-year-old joined Union SG only a few months after leaving Orlando Pirates, where he spent four successful years and helped the Soweto club win seven trophies.
Mofokeng’s progress at Pirates culminated in a highly successful final season. He was named the club’s Players’ Player of the Season, Footballer of the Season and Young Player of the Season.
He also represented Bafana Bafana at the Africa Cup of Nations after being selected by coach Hugo Broos. Mofokeng featured in three matches at the tournament before completing his move to Europe.
His transition to Belgian football has been swift. Mofokeng has scored four goals in nine appearances for Union SG across all competitions, immediately making an impression with his performances.
Union SG reportedly paid around R60 million to sign him from Pirates. However, his valuation has increased substantially since the transfer.
Mofokeng’s market value is reported to have risen from €3 million to €6 million in only four months. The updated figure is approximately R111 million, representing a significant increase from the fee that took him from South Africa to Belgium.
The rise reflects the impact he has made during the early stages of his European career, although the valuation remains dependent on his continued performances for Union SG.
Should the former Pirates player maintain his current level, his market value could increase further and potentially reach €10 million.
For Mofokeng, sustaining his form will be important as he seeks to establish himself in European football. His performances in Belgium could also help strengthen his position in the Bafana Bafana setup.
