Brice Samba’s long-standing run of involvement with the France squad has been brought to a close, with the Rennes goalkeeper left out of the national team for their upcoming matches.
Samba’s omission ends a sequence of 48 consecutive call-ups, which began in March 2023. The decision marks a significant change for a player who had become a regular presence within the France set-up in recent years.
After more than three years of consistent involvement with the national team, Samba will now miss out on selection and see his run come to an end.
Zidane’s decision also signals a clear intention to give greater opportunities to a new generation of players and to build the future of the national team in a planned way.
