Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will meet in the 2026 MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, with R10 million in prize money at stake.
Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00, and the match is expected to be played in front of more than 50 000 supporters after the fixture sold out.
The final brings together two of the three Gauteng giants who remain unbeaten in the league this season. Kaizer Chiefs are the other team yet to lose a league match.
Both sides have taken different routes to the final, with Orlando Pirates securing their place after a dominant semi-final display, while Mamelodi Sundowns had to recover from a first-leg defeat to Golden Arrows.
Orlando Pirates began their MTN8 campaign with a quarter-final against Durban City. They needed extra time to settle the tie but eventually emerged 2-1 winners.
Their semi-final was played over two legs against Sekhukhune United. Orlando Pirates won the opening match 1-0 before completing the job with a 3-0 victory in the return fixture.
That gave Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side a 4-0 aggregate success and secured their place in a fifth consecutive MTN8 final.
Mamelodi Sundowns also needed extra time in their quarter-final, overcoming Polokwane City 3-2 in a closely contested match.
The Brazilians were then drawn against Golden Arrows in the last four. Their hopes of reaching the final suffered an early setback when Golden Arrows won the first leg 1-0.
Miguel Cardoso’s team responded in the second match, beating Golden Arrows 2-1. The result was enough to send Mamelodi Sundowns through on the away-goal rule.
The final will therefore see Orlando Pirates attempt to complete their latest MTN8 campaign with another trophy, while Mamelodi Sundowns look to finish the competition strongly after overturning their semi-final deficit.
