Harry Kane scored twice as England beat Czechia 3-0 at Wembley Stadium, with the captain matching Peter Shilton’s record of 125 appearances for the Three Lions.
Kane was involved in all three goals on Tuesday as England moved on to nine points in Nations League Group A3, three behind leaders Spain. England need only one point from their final two matches to join Spain in qualifying for the quarter-finals.
The hosts dominated from the outset but took until the 27th minute to break through. Kane sent a cross towards Eberechi Eze, whose delayed run left Vladimir Coufal wrong-footed. The former West Ham defender then diverted the ball into his own net without pressure.
England doubled their advantage 13 minutes later through a flowing move. Elliot Anderson played a perfectly weighted pass over the defence for Morgan Rogers, who guided a first-time ball into Kane’s path. The England captain made no mistake from close range.
Kane came close to a hat-trick just after half-time when his dipping effort struck the top of the crossbar. He did find the net again in the 57th minute, rising unchallenged to head in Lewis Hall’s corner.
Czechia created little in response. Their best opportunity came when Roman Macek sent a fierce effort wide from just outside the penalty area, while Alex Kral narrowly missed the post with a rebound and Lukas Hornicek saved a long-range free-kick from Trent.
England created chances worth 1.83 expected goals and restricted Czechia to five shots, with a combined value of 0.17 xG. Czechia have now lost five consecutive matches.
Thomas Tuchel used the closing stages to give opportunities to several fringe players. Rio Ngumoha came on alongside Morgan Gibbs-White for Jude Bellingham and Hall, becoming the second-youngest player to appear for England at Wembley at 18 years and 38 days. Only Bellingham, who played there at 17 years and 136 days, was younger.
Kane continues to rewrite England records
The 33-year-old will have to wait until at least November for the chance to become England’s outright record appearance holder, but he produced another landmark performance at Wembley.
Kane has now scored at least twice in six England matches at the stadium, overtaking Alan Shearer’s total of five. He has also scored two or more goals in 18 different games for the Three Lions, another England record.
His brace made him the oldest England player to score twice in successive appearances, at 33 years and 70 days. Kane’s 13 goals in 2026 are the second-highest total by an England player in a calendar year, behind his 16 in 2021.
His 2026 tally is also the best among European players, moving him ahead of France’s Kylian Mbappe on 12 goals.
Kane was replaced by Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the 82nd minute. Czechia introduced Matej Radosta for Ondrej Lingr at half-time, while Michal Sadilek was booked for a foul in the second half. England’s starting line-up was Pickford, Alexander-Arnold, Elliot Anderson, Eberechi Eze, Guehi, Morgan Rogers, Bellingham, Quansah, Lewis Hall, Lewis-Skelly and Kane.
