RB Leipzig have joined a growing group of clubs monitoring Ivory Coast striker Karim Konaté, with RB Salzburg reportedly valuing the 22-year-old at between €20m and €25m.
Konaté has emerged as a player attracting interest from clubs in Germany and England, with Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt among the German sides understood to be following his situation.
Premier League clubs Sunderland and Nottingham Forest are also monitoring the forward, while other English teams are reported to have made contact with his representatives.
Salzburg would prefer to retain Konaté until the end of the season, but a move in January has not been ruled out if a club meets the Austrian side’s financial expectations.
Leipzig’s interest is particularly notable because of the close relationship between the two clubs within the Red Bull football group. Konaté has developed through the Red Bull system since moving from Ivory Coast side ASEC Mimosas in 2022.
The striker initially spent time with Liefering before establishing himself in Salzburg’s first team. His progress has made him one of the club’s most valuable attacking assets and helped generate interest from a number of potential suitors.
Salzburg’s reported €20m-€25m valuation reflects both Konaté’s potential and his performances before a serious injury interrupted his progress.
The Ivorian enjoyed his most productive league campaign during the 2023-24 season, scoring 20 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga. That tally made him the league’s leading scorer and earned him recognition as its best young player.
He was also selected in the league’s team of the season following his outstanding campaign.
Konaté’s overall record with Salzburg now stands at 36 goals in 69 league appearances, underlining the attacking contribution he has made since establishing himself at the club.
The forward remains under contract with Salzburg until June 2028, giving the Austrian club a strong position when considering any potential offer.
His contract length also means Salzburg are not under immediate pressure to sell, although a bid that meets their reported valuation could force the club to consider an early departure.
For Konaté, the interest represents another indication of his standing in European football after his rise through the Red Bull system.
Leipzig’s reported approach adds another major Bundesliga club to the list of potential destinations, while Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt are also keeping track of developments.
Interest from England adds further competition, with Sunderland and Nottingham Forest among the clubs monitoring the striker.
Salzburg’s preference remains to keep Konaté beyond the January transfer window and into the summer, but the possibility of a mid-season transfer remains open should an offer satisfy their demands.
The striker’s age, contract situation and previous goalscoring record all contribute to his reported valuation, while his room for further development could make him an attractive long-term investment for interested clubs.
With several teams now understood to be watching his situation, Konaté could become one of the more closely followed forwards when the next transfer window opens.
For now, Salzburg retain the services of the Ivory Coast international, whose contract runs until 2028. But with Leipzig, Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and Premier League clubs reportedly monitoring him, his future could become one of the key transfer stories surrounding the Austrian club.
