Tuchel praises ‘impeccable’ England performance after 7-0 victory

Thomas Tuchel described England’s 7-0 away win over a top-10 European side as an “impeccable, perfect performance”, with the team delivering almost the complete 90-minute display Harry Kane had previously called for.

Tuchel was delighted with England’s intensity and consistency from the opening whistle, although he identified a brief lapse after they had moved 3-0 ahead.

“Everyone performed at the highest level, from the first minute to the last, whether they were starters or substitutes,” said Tuchel. “It was a top-tier performance, congratulations to the team.”

The England manager acknowledged that the side gave the ball away cheaply for a short period after the third goal, but said that moment did little to diminish the overall quality of the display.

“There were perhaps three minutes after we went 3-0 up where we made a big mistake and gave away a couple of easily controllable possessions,” he said. “But for the entire 90 minutes, everyone performed at the highest level.”

A seven-goal victory away from home is a rare achievement against any opponent, Tuchel added, and was particularly impressive against a team ranked among Europe’s top 10.

England created numerous opportunities and played with fluency during the opening 40 minutes. Tuchel said he quickly recognised that the team had established a strong rhythm, which it maintained throughout the match.

“I remember looking at my watch and thinking: wow, the first three minutes were really good,” he said. “A little later I looked again and thought: the first seven minutes were also very good; and that momentum never stopped.”

He praised the way England repeatedly found openings in the opposition defence and converted their chances with outstanding efficiency.

“The team maintained its rhythm, penetrated the opponent’s defensive gaps, and was incredibly clinical in front of goal,” said Tuchel.

The manager also highlighted England’s work without the ball. He said the players combined an aggressive pressing approach with disciplined defending, while continuing to show humility and attention to detail.

“We were always hungry in pressing and defending, so we did the basic work very well,” he said. “We always played with humility and always got the basic details right, which is why it was an impeccable, perfect performance.”
