Burkina Faso international Hervé Koffi has been shortlisted for the Ligue 1 Best Goalkeeper award, underlining a standout season that has placed him among Africa’s top performers in European football.
The Angers SCO shot-stopper is one of five nominees for the prestigious UNFP award for the 2025–2026 campaign, following a series of consistent performances in France’s top flight.
Koffi’s inclusion comes after a season in which he has firmly established himself as a key figure for Angers.
The 29-year-old has recorded 10 clean sheets in 27 league appearances, while also averaging more than four saves per match, a statistic that highlights both his reliability and importance to his side.
His performances have not gone unnoticed domestically, having already been named Angers’ Player of the Season.
The Burkina Faso international has also demonstrated his ability in high-pressure moments, saving two penalties during the campaign.
The nomination places Koffi alongside some of Ligue 1’s most respected goalkeepers.
The shortlist includes Brice Samba of Stade Rennais, Mike Benders of RC Strasbourg, Robin Reiser of RC Lens, and Dominik Greif of Olympique Lyonnais.
Despite the competition, Koffi’s performances have ensured he is considered a serious contender for the award.
His impact at Angers has been particularly significant given the demands placed on the team throughout the season.
Frequently called into action, the goalkeeper has provided a dependable last line of defence, often keeping his side in matches with crucial interventions.
Beyond statistics, Koffi’s presence has brought leadership and composure to the Angers back line.
His ability to organise the defence and respond under pressure has contributed to his growing reputation both in France and across the African continent.
The nomination also reflects a broader trend of African players making a strong impact in European leagues.
Koffi’s rise has positioned him among a growing list of goalkeepers from the continent excelling at the highest level.
For Burkina Faso, his form is an encouraging sign ahead of future international competitions, as the Stallions look to build on recent progress.
With the Ligue 1 season nearing its conclusion, attention will now turn to the UNFP awards ceremony, where Koffi will hope his performances are rewarded with one of French football’s top individual honours.
