AC Milan are monitoring Granada’s 17-year-old winger Owen Emeka after being impressed by his performance in the 1-1 draw with Albacete on 12 September.
The club’s recruitment team had travelled to assess the versatility of Dylan Rodriguez, but Emeka emerged as the player who made the strongest impression. The Nigerian-born teenager produced a memorable individual run before finishing at the near post to complete an outstanding display.
The performance followed another eye-catching appearance against Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Under-19 championship, where Emeka further underlined the potential already recognised by Granada’s management.
His contract contains a €15m release clause, which is now viewed as an opportunity by clubs watching his progress. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan want to move ahead of their rivals by initially incorporating Emeka into their reserve team.
The Italian club’s interest comes with a tight timetable, however. Real Madrid are also following the winger closely in Spain, with both clubs maintaining regular checks on his development.
For AC Milan, activating the release clause is considered the only way to move ahead of the Spanish club and complete a deal for the teenager, who has Spanish and Nigerian heritage.
Emeka has made six appearances in Segunda Division this year and has scored once. That goal made him the second-youngest scorer in Granada’s history.
Granada have also acted to secure his future. Impressed by his athletic ability, the club recently handed Emeka a long-term contract running until 2031. His value is listed at €1m by Transfermarkt.
The next opportunity to watch him will come when Granada play Real Sociedad B in the eighth round of LaLiga2.
