Wydad Athletic Club suffered another damaging setback after falling to a 2-1 defeat against Ittihad Yaacoub Mansour in Round 17 of the Botola Pro Inwi.
The Casablanca giants appeared on course for a much-needed victory after taking an early lead, but a second-half collapse saw the visitors complete an impressive comeback and deepen the growing crisis surrounding the club.
Salah Moussaddaq Gives Wydad Early Advantage
Wydad made a bright start and opened the scoring in the ninth minute through defender Salah Moussaddaq.
The centre-back rose to convert a corner delivered by Hakim Ziyech, handing the home side an early advantage and lifting the mood inside the stadium.
Wydad managed to protect their lead for the remainder of the first half and went into the break appearing in control of the contest.
Yaacoub Mansour Fight Back
The momentum shifted dramatically after halftime as Ittihad Yaacoub Mansour responded with greater intensity and attacking urgency.
Zakaria Fati brought the visitors level in the 63rd minute, capitalising on defensive uncertainty to restore parity.
The turnaround was then completed in unfortunate fashion for Wydad when defender Amine Aboulfath inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, handing Yaacoub Mansour a decisive lead.
Despite late pressure from the hosts, the visitors held firm to secure a valuable away victory.
Pressure Mounting on Patrice Carteron
The defeat increases scrutiny on head coach Patrice Carteron, who is still searching for his first victory since returning to the club.
Carteron replaced Mohamed Amine Benhachem but has endured a difficult start to his tenure.
Under the French coach, Wydad have now gone five matches without a win, recording draws against Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi and Kawkab Marrakech, alongside defeats to FUS Rabat, Maghreb Fez and Ittihad Yaacoub Mansour.
Standings Situation Becoming Concerning
The result lifts Ittihad Yaacoub Mansour to 11 points, moving them into second-from-bottom position as they continue their fight against relegation.
For Wydad, however, the defeat leaves them stuck on 31 points in fourth place, further damaging their hopes of mounting a serious challenge near the top of the table.
Season Threatening to Drift Away
With performances continuing to decline and confidence appearing fragile, concern is growing around the direction of Wydad’s season.
The latest setback has intensified pressure on Carteron and his technical staff, with supporters increasingly demanding immediate improvement both in results and overall performances.
Unless the club finds a quick response, Wydad risk seeing their domestic campaign drift further away at a crucial stage of the season.
