Marmoush intensifies efforts to leave Man City for Catalan switch

Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush is reportedly seeking a move away from Manchester City, with the forward pushing for permission to leave the club during the upcoming summer transfer window amid growing interest from FC Barcelona.

The 25-year-old’s future has become increasingly uncertain following a difficult season in which he has struggled to secure a regular place in Pep Guardiola’s plans. The presence of prolific striker Erling Haaland has further limited opportunities, leaving Marmoush on the fringes of the squad for much of the campaign.

So far this season, Marmoush has featured in 31 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals and registering three assists. However, his total playing time has amounted to just 1,222 minutes, highlighting his reduced role within the team structure.

Transfer speculation intensifies

Reports across Europe have already linked Marmoush with a number of potential destinations. English side Tottenham Hotspur and Italian giants Juventus have both been mentioned as possible suitors. However, it is Barcelona that has emerged as the most prominent option.

The Catalan club are reportedly considering Marmoush as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski should they fail to secure their preferred attacking target, Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez.

According to the Spanish outlet fichajes, Marmoush is now actively working through his agent to facilitate a departure from Manchester City. The report suggests the player is keen for clarity on his future, particularly as the club has not yet placed him on the list of available transfers for the summer window.

Barcelona’s interest and squad planning

Barcelona’s sporting department, led by director Deco, is said to view Marmoush as a viable option to strengthen their attacking options. The club is prioritising players who offer versatility and high energy in forward positions, attributes which Marmoush is believed to possess.

His ability to operate between the lines, combined with experience gained in different European leagues, is seen as a key factor in Barcelona’s interest. Prior to joining Manchester City, he had a productive spell in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he developed his reputation as a dynamic attacking player.

However, any potential deal is expected to be influenced heavily by Barcelona’s financial situation. The Spanish club continues to face economic constraints, which could limit their ability to meet high transfer fees.

Manchester City, for their part, invested around €75 million to sign Marmoush from German football just 18 months ago, meaning any negotiations would need to reflect their valuation of the player.

Player pushing for clarity

Marmoush is now believed to be waiting for a formal approach from Barcelona before increasing pressure on Manchester City to sanction a move. Should an offer materialise, the striker is expected to intensify efforts to secure a transfer.

The situation remains unresolved, but the player’s intention is clear: he is seeking a move that would allow him more consistent playing time and the opportunity to join one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.

As the summer transfer window approaches, attention will turn to whether Barcelona make a concrete move — and whether Manchester City are willing to allow one of their recent signings to depart.
