Barcelona have agreed a new contract with Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim that will keep the 18-year-old at the club until June 2030.
The renewal comes just months after Abdelkarim arrived from Al Ahly and follows his rapid rise into Hansi Flick’s first-team plans.
Abdelkarim initially joined Barcelona on loan in January, with the Catalan club exercising a €1.5 million purchase option in June. His first permanent contract was due to run until 2029, but his progress has now prompted Barcelona to extend the agreement by another year and improve his terms.
The club have also significantly increased his release clause.
Abdelkarim’s previous clause stood at €15 million, but that figure is expected to be replaced by a €150 million buyout clause, reflecting Barcelona’s belief in his potential and providing greater protection against interest from other clubs.
The Egyptian striker began his Barcelona career with the Juvenil A side before earning an opportunity to work with the senior squad during pre-season.
He quickly impressed Flick, finishing Barcelona’s preparations as the team’s leading scorer with four goals.
His performances subsequently earned him a place around the first team and culminated in his senior competitive debut against Rayo Vallecano on August 31.
The breakthrough has transformed Abdelkarim’s position at the club in a matter of months.
Having arrived from Al Ahly for €1.5 million, the teenager is now regarded as a player with significant first-team potential, with Barcelona moving quickly to secure his long-term future.
The new agreement is expected to be formally signed in the presence of Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Tuesday, September 15.
For Abdelkarim, the deal represents another major step in an impressive first year in Spain.
Barcelona, meanwhile, will hope the Egyptian can maintain his development and eventually establish himself as a regular member of Flick’s senior squad.
The club’s decision to extend his contract and raise his release clause to €150 million underlines the level of confidence surrounding his future at Camp Nou.
