Al-Ahli target Monaco academy graduate Pape Cabral in €10m move

Al-Ahli are in advanced negotiations with Monaco to sign 19-year-old midfielder Pape Cabral, with a deal worth about €10m expected to be agreed in the coming days, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.

The proposed transfer would take Cabral to the Saudi Pro League after the young midfielder attracted increasing attention during his development at Monaco. Talks between the two clubs are understood to have progressed significantly, although a final agreement has not yet been completed.

Cabral is a French-Senegalese player who came through Monaco’s youth academy and is regarded as one of the club’s most promising emerging talents. At 19, he has been steadily progressing towards senior football and has established himself as one of the standout prospects within the Monaco system.

His potential move to Al-Ahli would represent a significant step in his career, as the Saudi club seek to secure one of France’s rising midfielders. The negotiations are described as being at an advanced stage, with the transfer fee expected to be close to €10m.

If completed, the deal would add another notable sale to Monaco’s recent business in the Gulf region. The French club sold Simon Buabre to Neom for the same amount a year ago, while Georges Ilenikhena moved to Al-Ittihad in a deal worth €33m.

Monaco would therefore be preparing another substantial transfer involving one of their young players, with Cabral potentially following the path taken by several academy graduates who have moved on for significant fees.

The report from L’Equipe says Al-Ahli have made a serious approach for Cabral and are working towards reaching a final agreement with Monaco. The French club’s willingness to consider the offer means the midfielder could leave in the next few days, provided the remaining details are settled.

Cabral’s possible departure would mark the latest example of Monaco’s strategy of developing young footballers before securing sizeable transfer fees for them. The midfielder is yet to complete that process, but his form and potential have placed him firmly among the club’s most closely watched prospects.

For Al-Ahli, signing Cabral would provide an opportunity to bring a highly rated teenager into their squad while adding further depth in midfield. The Saudi club are now attempting to turn the advanced discussions into a completed transfer, with the €10m figure forming the basis of the expected agreement.
