Ricardo Rodriguez one step away from Torino return on 1+1 contract

Ricardo Rodriguez is close to returning to Torino as a free agent, according to a report by Italian journalist Schira on 3 September.

The 34-year-old former AC Milan player is understood to be at the final stage of negotiations with the Serie A club after his contract with Real Betis expired this summer. Torino are preparing to bring Rodriguez back on a one-year deal, with an option to extend the agreement for an additional season.

The proposed contract would give both parties a further year together if the continuation clause is activated. However, the move is not yet formally complete, with Rodriguez still required to undergo a medical examination before the contract can be signed.

According to Schira’s report, Torino plan to carry out that medical on 3 September and then proceed with the official signing. Rodriguez is therefore described as being only one step away from making his return to the club.

Rodriguez previously played for Torino between 2020 and 2024. During that spell, he made 129 appearances, scoring one goal and providing three assists. His potential return would see him rejoin the club as a free agent following the end of his time with Real Betis.

The agreement under discussion is structured as a 1+1 contract: one guaranteed season followed by the possibility of another year. The medical will be the next significant stage before Torino complete the formalities.

Rodriguez’s previous four-year spell at Torino remains the central reason for the proposed reunion. He left the club after making 129 appearances, and the new agreement would allow him to return after his contract with Real Betis ended this summer.

Although the transfer is close, Torino have not yet officially announced the signing. The medical examination and subsequent completion of the paperwork are still required before the move can be confirmed.
