Lamine Yamal breaks silence after season-ending injury

FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has spoken publicly for the first time since his injury, expressing disappointment at being sidelined while backing his teammates to finish the season strongly.

The 18-year-old is set to miss the remainder of the domestic campaign after suffering a hamstring injury, though the club has indicated he is expected to recover in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026.

In a message shared on Instagram, Yamal reflected on the emotional impact of the setback, describing the frustration of being unable to contribute during a crucial stage of the season.

“This injury leaves me off the field at the time I most wanted to be, and it hurts more than I can explain. It hurts not being able to fight with my teammates, not being able to help when the team needs me. But I believe in them and I know they’re going to drop their souls in every game.”

Despite the setback, the young forward made clear his intention to remain closely involved with the squad, even while unavailable for selection.

“I’ll be there, even if it’s from the outside, supporting, encouraging and pushing as one more. This is not the end, this is just a break. I’ll come back stronger, more eager than ever, and next season will be better.”

“Thanks for the messages and Visca el Barça.💙❤️”

Yamal’s comments come shortly after Barcelona confirmed the nature of his injury, sustained after he scored a decisive penalty in a victory over Celta Vigo. The goal secured all three points but was followed by his early exit from the match, raising concerns over his fitness.

The club has since adopted a conservative recovery plan, prioritising his long-term fitness and availability for upcoming international commitments. Spain are expected to include Lamine Yamal in their plans for the World Cup, with the teenager emerging as one of the country’s most promising attacking options.

Barcelona, meanwhile, must now navigate the closing stages of the season without one of their key young talents. Yamal’s absence represents a challenge for the squad, though his public show of support highlights a strong sense of unity within the team.

As he begins his rehabilitation, attention will remain on his recovery progress ahead of the summer tournament, where he is expected to play a role if he regains full fitness.
