Atletico Madrid’s Jonathan David bid depends on Juventus finding a replacement

Atletico Madrid have made an official approach to Juventus for Canada striker Jonathan David, with the proposed deal understood to involve a loan and an option to buy.

The Madrid club have sent an offer to Juventus for the 26-year-old forward as they attempt to bring him to Spain. The terms of a possible transfer remain under discussion, and David is reportedly willing to move to Atletico Madrid.

However, Juventus are not prepared to sanction the deal immediately. The Turin club’s position is that David will only be allowed to leave once they have found a replacement for him.

That condition currently stands in the way of any agreement between the two clubs. Juventus could consider approving the transfer after securing another forward, but until then David remains part of their plans.

The details of Atletico Madrid’s proposal were reported by well-known journalist Fabrizio Romano. The offer would initially take David to the Spanish club on loan, with Atletico Madrid retaining the right to complete a permanent transfer at a later stage.

The two sides are continuing to discuss the structure and conditions of the potential move. No final agreement has been reached, with Juventus’ requirement for a replacement remaining central to the negotiations.

David has been a Juventus player since the summer of 2025. His contract with the Italian club runs until June 2030, giving Juventus a long-term contractual position as they assess Atletico Madrid’s approach.

For now, the outcome depends on whether Juventus can identify and secure an alternative before allowing David to depart. Atletico Madrid have made their interest formal, while the player is ready for the proposed move, but the Turin club must first be satisfied that his position in the squad can be covered.

The current discussions therefore centre on more than the financial and sporting terms of the loan proposal. Juventus’ decision will also be shaped by the timing of any replacement deal, as the club does not intend to release David without another forward in place.

David’s willingness to join Atletico Madrid means the player is not understood to be an obstacle to the transfer. The immediate issue is instead between the clubs, with Juventus weighing the offer against the need to maintain their attacking options.

Until that requirement is met, Atletico Madrid’s attempt to sign the Canada international remains unresolved. Juventus’ contract with David extends for four more years beyond the current season, but the Madrid club have now formally opened talks over a possible loan move followed by a permanent transfer.
