FC Midtjylland midfielder Alamara Djabi is in stable condition after being seriously injured in a knife attack in Denmark, in an incident that left the 19-year-old in a medically induced coma and required two emergency surgeries.
The club confirmed that Djabi, who is from Guinea-Bissau, suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack, which took place in the town of Herning over the weekend.
He has since regained consciousness after being brought out of a coma and is currently recovering under close medical supervision.
Midtjylland said they are working closely with authorities as investigations into the incident continue, while also supporting the player and his family during this critical period.
“FC Midtjylland is in close dialogue and cooperation with the authorities and is providing support to Alamara Djabi and his family,” the club wrote on its website.
The club did not provide any further details about the circumstances. “Out of respect for the ongoing police investigation, including witness interviews and inquiries, we will not be making any further comments.”
Djabi sustained a severe stab wound and required urgent medical intervention shortly after the attack.
Medical staff performed two operations, with early reports indicating the player was “on the brink of death” before his condition stabilised.
Police in Denmark have confirmed that a formal investigation is underway.
Authorities are currently searching for a fair-skinned man believed to be around 20 years old in connection with the stabbing in Herning.
The incident has shocked the Danish football community and raised concern over the wellbeing of the young midfielder, who is regarded as one of Midtjylland’s emerging prospects.
Djabi joined FC Midtjylland in 2023 and spent part of his development on loan at Portuguese side CD Mafra.
He has mainly featured for the club’s youth and reserve teams but has also made brief appearances in senior competition.
This season, he made one senior appearance for Midtjylland during a Europa League qualifying match against Finnish side KuPS on 28 August, coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 win that secured a 6-0 aggregate victory for the Danish side.
While Djabi’s playing career remains secondary at this stage, the focus has now shifted entirely to his recovery following what his club described as a traumatic and serious attack.
