Al Ahly set for squad shake-up as three players face exit

Al Ahly are preparing for significant squad changes at the end of the current season, with three young foreign players expected to leave as part of a wider restructuring process.

The development was revealed by media figure Ahmed Shobeir, who indicated that the club’s management has already reached an advanced stage in its decision-making regarding the trio.

Speaking on his radio programme, Shobeir outlined the players likely to depart, suggesting that their contributions have not met expectations during their time at the club.

He said: “There are three under-age players in Al-Ahly Club who will leave, namely: Ibrahim Kazem, who impressed us at first, then disappeared and did not appear as expected.”

Performance Concerns Drive Decision

Shobeir identified the other two players as Reindorf Odom and Samuel Obong, both of whom, like Ibrahim Kazem, have struggled to secure a consistent role in the team.

He added: “In addition to Reindorf Odom and Samuel Obong, who are also underage players, they have not succeeded in providing the required technical contribution to the team, and therefore Al-Ahly Club is on its way to dispensing with them permanently.”

The decision appears to reflect a broader effort by Al Ahly to reassess its squad composition, particularly in terms of player development and on-field impact. While the players were initially viewed as promising additions, their limited influence in competitive matches has led to a reassessment of their future at the club.

Final Decision Nears

According to Shobeir, the matter is close to being finalised internally, with little expectation of a reversal.

He continued: “The matter is almost settled within the club, as Al-Ahly has not benefited from these players technically in the past period, and therefore the decision to leave has become very likely.”

However, he suggested that there remains a slight possibility for one player to change the outcome.

Shobeir concluded his remarks by saying: “Ibrahim Kazem may get a little more chance before the final decision is made, but overall things look very difficult for him, and his chances of continuing are not great.”

Focus Shifts to Upcoming Fixture

While attention turns to the squad overhaul, Al Ahly must also prepare for their next domestic challenge. The club is scheduled to face Pyramids FC in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

The match will take place at the Air Defense Stadium on 27 April, with kick-off set for 20:00 local time in Cairo (21:00 Saudi time). The fixture represents an important opportunity for the team to maintain focus on their league campaign amid ongoing off-field developments.

Transition Period for Al Ahly

The expected departures underline a transitional phase for Al Ahly as the club seeks to refine its squad ahead of the next season. With decisions driven by performance and long-term planning, the coming weeks are likely to shape the direction of one of Africa’s most prominent football teams.
