Konyaspor reach agreement with Nantes to sign Mostafa Mohamed

Turkish club Konyaspor have reached an agreement with French side Nantes to sign Egypt international Mostafa Mohamed, according to sources.

The 28-year-old striker is set to return to Turkish football after Konyaspor and Nantes reached a final agreement over his transfer during the current summer window.

Nantes general secretary Luc Morin confirmed the agreement in a brief statement to WinWin: “Yes, we have reached an agreement with Konyaspor regarding Mostafa Mohamed and the matter is being implemented.”

According to Turkish network HT Spor, Nantes will receive €750,000 from Konyaspor for the Egyptian forward, with the fee to be paid in three instalments.

Mostafa Mohamed is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Turkish club, bringing an end to a difficult period in France and opening a new chapter in his career.

The move will also see the striker return to a country where he previously enjoyed a successful spell with Galatasaray.

Second Turkish experience for Mostafa Mohamed

Mostafa Mohamed is no stranger to Turkish football.

The Egyptian previously moved to Galatasaray in 2021 on loan from Zamalek, before the Turkish club exercised its option to purchase him permanently in 2022 for €3.85m.

His time at Galatasaray was followed by a move to France, where he joined Nantes initially on loan before the French club activated its purchase option in the summer of 2023.

Now, after several seasons in Ligue 1, Mostafa Mohamed is preparing to return to Turkey, this time with Konyaspor.

The proposed three-year contract would give the striker an opportunity to rebuild his career following a difficult period at Nantes.

During his time with the French club, Mohamed made 136 appearances across all competitions, scoring 29 goals and providing eight assists.

His 37 direct goal contributions demonstrate that he has been capable of producing an attacking impact in France, despite the difficulties that emerged during the later stages of his spell.

Difficult final season at Nantes

Mostafa Mohamed’s career at Nantes deteriorated significantly last season.

The French club were relegated to the second division, while the Egyptian’s own situation became increasingly complicated.

He missed Nantes’ pre-season training period and was subsequently removed from the first-team group.

The striker was instead moved to the reserve team and did not feature in any of the club’s matches during the current season.

His exclusion from the first team made a departure increasingly likely, with Konyaspor ultimately emerging as the club prepared to provide him with another opportunity.

The agreement with Nantes could now give Mohamed the chance to leave behind a frustrating period and restart his career in familiar surroundings.

His previous experience in Turkey should also mean that the striker already understands the demands of the country’s football environment.

Konyaspor move ends transfer uncertainty

The agreement with Konyaspor also brings an end to uncertainty surrounding Mostafa Mohamed’s immediate future.

Reports had previously suggested that Egyptian club Pyramids FC were interested in signing him.

However, despite those reports, Pyramids did not submit an official offer before the Egyptian summer transfer window closed.

That left the player’s future unresolved as Nantes had already removed him from their first-team plans.

Konyaspor have now stepped forward with a concrete agreement.

The Turkish club are reportedly set to pay €750,000 in three instalments, while Mohamed will commit his future to the side for three years.

For Nantes, the agreement provides a solution for a player who was no longer part of the first-team plans.

For Konyaspor, meanwhile, the signing represents an opportunity to add an experienced striker who has played in both Turkey and France.

A chance to revive his career

The transfer could be particularly important for Mohamed at a time when he needs regular football.

His spell at Nantes began with promise and eventually saw him establish himself as an international-level striker, but his situation changed dramatically after the club’s relegation and his removal from the first team.

A return to Turkey now offers him the opportunity to regain his confidence and playing time.

Mostafa Mohamed has already demonstrated that he can succeed in Turkish football, having previously played for Galatasaray after leaving Zamalek.

His record of 29 goals and eight assists in 136 appearances for Nantes also shows that he possesses the experience needed to contribute at club level.

The challenge at Konyaspor will be to rediscover that attacking form and become an important player for his new side.

The agreement between Nantes and Konyaspor is reportedly now complete, with the transfer being implemented.

The move will take Mohamed back to Turkey on a permanent basis and give him another opportunity to revive a career that had stalled in France.

For the Egyptian international, the next stage begins with Konyaspor, where he will hope to put his difficult final months at Nantes behind him and return to regular competitive football.
