Claude LeRoy has publicly questioned the legitimacy of Morocco’s 2025 AFCON win, alleging irregularities in the decision-making process.
LeRoy claimed that the circumstances surrounding the title award were questionable and damaging to the reputation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), who stripped Senegal off the title.
His remarks have added to growing concerns over governance and transparency within the sport on the continent.
“I think there were a lot of shady dealings to decide that MOR are champions — it’s pitiful for the image that CAF is giving,” LeRoy said.
His comments suggest dissatisfaction not only with the outcome but also with the process that led to Morocco being declared champions.
The coach further implied that the decision could set a troubling precedent.
“It feels like MOR can get away with anything,” he added.
The controversy appears to centre on Morocco’s method of securing the title, which LeRoy described as being based on a technicality rather than on-field merit.
Morocco were named winners on Tuesday night by thr CAF appeal Board who reviewed the chaotic final that saw Senegal storm off the pitch.
“MOR went to claim this victory on a technicality — this is only the beginning of the affair,” he said
While CAF has yet to respond publicly to these allegations, the remarks are likely to intensify scrutiny of its procedures.
The governing body has faced criticism in the past over decision-making processes, and this latest dispute could further challenge its credibility.
