Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a convincing away victory over Crystal Palace, as Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki both scored twice.
The visitors took control of the second-round match in the 17th minute when Haaland finished off a City attack. Antoine Semenyo provided the assist, with the goal giving the away side an early advantage.
Crystal Palace were unable to find a response before half-time, and Manchester City extended their lead nine minutes after the interval. Cherki found the net in the 54th minute to put further distance between the teams.
The game then moved decisively in Manchester City’s favour. Gianluigi Donnarumma scored an own goal shortly afterwards, leaving Crystal Palace facing a heavy defeat.
Cherki completed his double soon after, adding a fourth goal for the visitors. Haaland then also reached two goals for the match when he struck in the 84th minute, bringing the scoring to an emphatic conclusion.
The result gives Manchester City six points from their opening two league matches and preserves their 100% record at the start of the campaign. They have won both of their games so far, with this performance producing a particularly clear margin of victory away from home.
For Crystal Palace, the result represents a second successive defeat at the beginning of the Premier League season. They remain without a point after their first two matches, while Manchester City move on with maximum points.
City’s attacking players were the decisive factor throughout the contest. Haaland’s two finishes and Cherki’s brace accounted for four of the goals, while Semenyo’s contribution came in the form of the assist for the opening strike. Donnarumma’s own goal added to Crystal Palace’s problems during a second half in which the visitors took complete control.
The match was settled by Manchester City’s clinical finishing after their first goal, with the away side adding four more goals after the break. Crystal Palace could not prevent the scoreline from growing, and Haaland’s late goal completed the result.
