Alex Scott backs Semenyo to win Premier League

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott says he is backing his former teammate Antoine Semenyo and Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title after his side’s victory over Arsenal delivered a significant blow to the leaders’ hopes.

Scott scored as Bournemouth claimed a 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium, a result that has tightened the contest at the top of the table and handed renewed momentum to City in the closing stages of the season.

Speaking after the match, the 22-year-old revealed he had been in contact with Semenyo, who recently joined City, and expressed his support for the forward as the title race intensifies.

“I texted Antoine Semenyo afterwards; he was happy with us winning,” Scott said. “I’m hoping for Antoine, but Arsenal have been brilliant all year, so whoever wins it will deserve it.”

The result has increased pressure on Arsenal, whose form has shown signs of faltering at a crucial point in the campaign. Bournemouth’s victory allowed Manchester City to capitalise, with Pep Guardiola’s side securing a convincing 3-0 win over Chelsea to close the gap at the top.

Scott’s goal proved pivotal, not only in securing three points for Bournemouth but also in altering the trajectory of the title race. Arsenal had been widely praised for their consistency throughout much of the season, but this latest setback has opened the door for City to mount a strong challenge.

Semenyo’s recent arrival at Manchester City has added further strength to their attacking options, and he has played an important role in their impressive run of form during the final stretch of the season. His contributions have coincided with City’s resurgence as they seek to retain their position among the league’s elite.

With only weeks remaining, the race for the Premier League crown appears increasingly competitive. Arsenal, who had looked in control for much of the campaign, must now respond to maintain their advantage, while City’s recent performances suggest they are well positioned to take advantage of any further slip-ups.

Scott acknowledged the quality shown by Arsenal over the course of the season, but suggested that the outcome remains uncertain as both sides continue to battle for top spot.

The closing stages of the season are now set up for a dramatic conclusion, with momentum seemingly shifting between the two sides. Bournemouth’s intervention has added another twist, ensuring that the destination of the title remains firmly in the balance.

As the competition enters its final phase, attention will turn to whether Arsenal can rediscover their earlier form or if Manchester City can sustain their surge and overtake them at the summit.
