Aaron Wan-Bissaka has secured a move to Aston Villa on a season-long loan after deciding against playing in the Championship following West Ham’s relegation.
The 28-year-old right-back will remain in the Premier League and has joined the Birmingham club in a deal that includes an option to buy worth 21m euros. Aston Villa have described the arrangement as including a conditional obligation to purchase the player.
Wan-Bissaka is set to add to his 233 Premier League appearances, accumulated during spells with Manchester United, Crystal Palace and West Ham. The London-born defender spent the past two seasons with the Hammers after joining from Manchester United.
The move also gives Wan-Bissaka the chance to return to the Champions League. He has already made 15 appearances in the competition and will now be part of Aston Villa’s squad as they prepare for another European campaign.
His arrival forms part of a significant reshaping of Aston Villa’s defensive options. The club had already strengthened on the left by signing Matteo Ruggeri and have now added competition on the opposite flank, where Matty Cash has been the established option.
The signing also helps cover the departures of two young defenders, Kosta Nedeljkovic and Andres Garcia, who have both left Aston Villa on loan. Wan-Bissaka’s experience is expected to provide an immediate alternative at right-back while also increasing competition for places.
Transfermarkt currently values the defender at 15m euros. During his time at West Ham, Wan-Bissaka earned an annual salary of 5,487,849 euros, equivalent to 3,567,101,850 FCFA. His contract with West Ham runs until 2031.
Wan-Bissaka began his senior career at Crystal Palace before moving to Manchester United, where he established himself as a regular Premier League full-back. His two seasons at West Ham followed a period in which he remained a prominent figure in England’s top flight.
The new season will begin with Brighton facing Aston Villa on the opening matchday of the English championship. The published betting prices list Brighton at 2.20 to win, a draw at 3.50 and Aston Villa at 2.95.
