The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has confirmed that it is following disciplinary proceedings initiated by FIFA against Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan, team manager Ibrahim Hassan and Pharaohs player Mostafa Zico following comments made after Egypt’s 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Argentina.
The EFA said it fully respects FIFA’s regulations and disciplinary procedures and will submit the necessary legal responses and memoranda within the deadlines set by the world governing body.
EFA vows to defend its officials and player
In its statement, the Egyptian FA said it supports those involved in the proceedings and will defend the interests of Egyptian football through the appropriate official channels.
The association stressed that its position does not mean it rejects FIFA’s authority, but rather that it intends to use the available legal procedures to protect the interests of its technical staff and players.
The EFA also reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of fair play and respect for the bodies responsible for organising international competitions.
At the same time, it said it retains the right to defend Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim Hassan and Mostafa Zico before FIFA’s relevant disciplinary authorities.
Awaiting FIFA decision
The proceedings relate to statements made by the three Egyptians following the Egypt-Argentina encounter at the 2026 World Cup.
The EFA has now begun preparing its responses while awaiting the outcome of the disciplinary process.
For now, no final sanctions have been announced, with the Egyptian FA expected to continue its defence of the coach, team manager and player as FIFA reviews the matter.
