Genoa are weighing up a move for former Inter striker Mehdi Taremi as they continue their search for a new centre-forward before the transfer window closes.
The Iran international is not currently the club’s preferred option, but he remains under consideration as Daniele De Rossi’s side assess a number of possible solutions. Competition from other clubs could influence any move for Taremi.
According to Il Secolo XIX, via CalcioMercato, Genoa’s first choice remains Evan Ferguson. Talks over a loan move from Brighton are progressing, although the deal is complicated by uncertainty over when the Republic of Ireland forward will return from ankle surgery.
Ferguson’s recovery timeline is therefore an important factor as Genoa decide whether they can complete an agreement in time. The Italian club continue to regard him as the ideal profile for the position, but the fitness issue has made the proposed loan more difficult to finalise.
Genoa are also considering Lorenzo Lucca as another potential loan signing. Lucca is currently with Napoli, who Genoa face at Marassi this weekend, adding an immediate connection between the clubs as they explore their options.
Taremi joined Olympiacos after leaving Inter and scored 16 goals for the Greek club last season. The Iranian international also participated at this summer’s World Cup.
Although the 16-goal striker is behind Ferguson in Genoa’s thinking, his experience and availability have kept him in the frame. Genoa are continuing to examine whether a deal can be reached while also being mindful of interest from elsewhere in the player.
The club’s recruitment work is not limited to Italy. De Rossi’s side are monitoring forwards abroad, including Montenegro international Milutin Osmajic of Preston and Morocco striker Tawfik Bentayeb of Union Touarga.
Those players form part of a wider list of possibilities as Genoa look for the right attacking addition. With the market approaching its close, the club are assessing every available avenue while their preferred move for Ferguson remains dependent on the forward’s return from ankle surgery.
