Liverpool have made a €60m offer for Brighton forward Yankuba Minteh, but the proposal has been rejected, according to The Athletic.
The 22-year-old is currently recovering from an injury sustained during a friendly against Roma and is expected to be unavailable for at least eight weeks. Despite the setback, Liverpool submitted an offer for the Gambia international, only to see Brighton turn it down.
Minteh himself would not be opposed to a move to Liverpool, according to the report. However, Brighton’s decision means the Premier League clubs have not reached an agreement over a transfer.
The forward’s ability to operate on either the right or left wing is understood to be one of the reasons he appeals to Liverpool. His versatility would give the club an option who can play across both wide positions, while his age and existing Premier League experience also form part of the context surrounding the proposed move.
Brighton signed Minteh from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024 for €35m. He agreed a contract that runs until the summer of 2029, leaving the player tied to the club for several more seasons.
During the previous campaign, Minteh made 36 appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists. Those figures came before his current injury, which is expected to keep him out for a minimum of eight weeks.
Liverpool’s offer would represent a €25m increase on the fee Brighton paid to Newcastle United for the forward in 2024. Nevertheless, the club have rejected the initial approach, despite Minteh being open to the possibility of moving to Anfield.
The report does not state whether Liverpool intend to return with an improved bid. For now, Minteh remains a Brighton player while he continues his recovery from the injury suffered against Roma.
The proposed deal has therefore been put on hold, with the immediate issue being the player’s fitness and the fact that Brighton have declined Liverpool’s €60m offer. His ability to play on both flanks remains a key part of his appeal, while his long-term contract means Brighton retain control of the situation.
