French club responds to Al Ahly links for Jordan Mendes

French club outlines position amid transfer speculation

Rodez AF have confirmed they are willing to consider selling midfielder Jordan Mendes if a suitable offer is made, following reports linking the player with a move to Al Ahly SC.

The statement came from the club’s general manager, Gregory Orsoli, who addressed growing speculation over Mendes’ future ahead of the summer transfer window.

In recent days, reports have suggested that Al Ahly are monitoring the 22-year-old as a potential reinforcement, particularly amid uncertainty surrounding the future of midfielder Aliou Dieng.

No formal approach yet from Al Ahly

Despite the increasing links, Rodez have made it clear that no official contact has been made by the Egyptian club.

Speaking to Kora Plus, Orsoli confirmed that neither an offer nor direct communication had been received regarding the player.

However, the club signalled a pragmatic approach to any potential negotiations.

“We are always open to selling the player if a suitable offer arrives.”

He added that any decisions regarding Mendes’ future would not be rushed, indicating that discussions are likely to take place once the current campaign concludes.

“But these issues concerning the players’ future will be discussed at the end of the season.”

Mendes’ profile attracting attention

Mendes, who plays as a defensive midfielder, joined Rodez in June 2025 after beginning his development at the Versailles academy. At 22, he is regarded as a player with growing potential, which may explain the reported interest from clubs seeking to strengthen their squads.

His performances at club level have coincided with increased recognition at international level, with the midfielder expected to represent Cape Verde national football team at the 2026 World Cup.

World Cup factor may influence timing

The international stage could play a role in shaping Mendes’ future, as his participation in the tournament is anticipated following the group-stage draw.

Cape Verde have been placed alongside Spain national football team, Saudi Arabia national football team and Uruguay national football team, a grouping that is likely to draw significant attention.

The prospect of showcasing his abilities at a major tournament may also influence both the player’s valuation and the timing of any potential transfer discussions.

Decision deferred as interest builds

While speculation continues to link Mendes with a move to Al Ahly, Rodez’s position remains measured. With no formal approach yet received, the French club appear content to wait until the end of the season before making any definitive decisions. However, their openness to a sale suggests that Mendes could become a key figure in the upcoming transfer window, particularly if interest from major clubs materialises.
