Medical Update Follows Injury During Youth Match
Al Ahly SC have confirmed the full extent of a knee injury sustained by youth player Bilal Attia during a recent match in the Republic Championship.
The injury occurred on Monday during a fixture against Tala’ea El Gaish SC, prompting immediate medical evaluation. The club has since released detailed findings following a series of diagnostic tests.
Comprehensive Diagnosis Revealed
According to Dr Osama Mostafa, head of the medical staff in the club’s youth football sector, examinations confirmed multiple issues affecting the player’s knee.
While there was relief that the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) remained intact, the assessment identified bruising in the knee bones, alongside sprains in both the medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament. In addition, the player has suffered a tear in the medial meniscus.
The combination of injuries suggests a significant setback for the young prospect, though the absence of a cruciate ligament rupture may help avoid surgical intervention.
Treatment Plan and Recovery Timeline
Medical staff have outlined a conservative treatment approach for Attia, opting against immediate surgery. The current plan involves a rehabilitation period lasting approximately six weeks.
During this time, the player will undergo targeted therapy aimed at reducing inflammation, restoring stability, and gradually improving mobility in the affected knee.
A follow-up medical evaluation will be conducted at the end of the six-week period to determine progress and assess whether further intervention is required.
Impact on Youth Squad
Attia, a member of Al Ahly’s 2007-born team, is regarded as part of the club’s developing talent pool. His absence will be felt within the youth setup, particularly during ongoing Republic Championship fixtures.
The injury highlights the physical demands placed on young players competing at a high level, as well as the importance of careful medical management to ensure long-term recovery.
Cautious Optimism Amid Setback
Although the diagnosis confirms multiple ligament injuries and cartilage damage, the preservation of the ACL provides a degree of optimism regarding Attia’s recovery outlook.
For Al Ahly, the priority will be ensuring the player’s safe return to full fitness, with medical staff closely monitoring his rehabilitation in the coming weeks.
The next assessment will be crucial in determining whether the young midfielder can resume training as planned or if further treatment will be necessary.
