Ferran Torres has reportedly told Barcelona that he wants to join Paris Saint-Germain, with the French club in advanced negotiations over a deal worth about €50m.
The proposed move could become one of the most significant transfers of the summer window, with PSG targeting the 26-year-old Spain international as they look to strengthen their forward options.
Torres has one year remaining on his Barcelona contract. That leaves the Spanish club facing a decision over whether to accept a substantial fee now or risk losing the player for nothing when his deal expires next year.
Transfer expert Ben Jacobs said talks between the clubs had progressed, while Torres has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with PSG.
“PSG are now in advanced talks with Barcelona to sign Ferran Torres. Player has already agreed terms on a five-year contract.
“Fee in the region of €50m under discussion. PSG confident.”
PSG are understood to be looking for a new back-up striker after selling Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani this summer. Torres is regarded as a suitable option for that role and could provide further attacking competition within the squad.
The forward has scored 65 goals and supplied 23 assists in 207 appearances for Barcelona. Reports suggest he now wants to move to the French capital, just five days before the new La Liga season begins this weekend.
His possible departure comes at a time of significant movement at Barcelona. The Catalan club are welcoming Rodri, while Ronald Araujo is expected to leave for Liverpool on loan.
Torres’ comments last week indicated that he wanted greater clarity over Barcelona’s intentions. He said: “(Barcelona) must show that they want me”.
The latest reports suggest the club has not convinced him that his long-term future belongs at Camp Nou. With PSG confident of completing the deal and Barcelona weighing up an offer in the region of €50m, the situation could develop quickly before the start of the domestic campaign.
PSG are seeking to secure the World Cup winner, who scored the winning goal against Argentina in the final last month. A move would give Torres the opportunity to continue his career in France while providing the Parisian club with another option in attack following the departures of Ramos and Kolo Muani.
For Barcelona, the decision is complicated by the player’s contract situation. Selling Torres this summer would guarantee a sizeable transfer fee, whereas keeping him could allow him to leave as a free agent in 2027 if no new agreement is reached.
