Manchester City have contacted Alexis Mac Allister’s representatives to explore the possibility of signing the Liverpool midfielder during the August transfer window, according to the Daily Sports newspaper.
The reported approach comes amid speculation over Manchester City’s plans for the summer and a possible overhaul of their midfield. Mac Allister has emerged as one of the names being considered by the English club, with the Argentine player reportedly on Enzo Maresca’s radar.
Manchester City could pursue the 27-year-old if Rodri leaves the Etihad Stadium during the current transfer window. Should that happen, Mac Allister would be among the alternatives under consideration as the club assesses its midfield options.
The report does not indicate that a transfer has been agreed, nor does it suggest that Liverpool have decided to make Mac Allister available. Instead, Manchester City’s contact with his representatives is described as an exploration of the possibility of a move.
Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023 and has since become an important member of the team’s midfield. However, the reports from England have prompted strong reactions from Liverpool supporters, many of whom do not expect the club to allow the player to leave easily.
One supporter wrote: “you think that we Liverpool we will let him leave no way”
Another comment appeared to welcome the prospect of Manchester City taking Mac Allister while suggesting Liverpool should sign Adam Wharton instead: “Please take him and buy adam warton”
A further reaction described the potential move as an excellent signing for Manchester City, while expressing doubt that Liverpool would be willing to negotiate his departure: “a great signing it would be 💯, but doubt Liverpool will be willing to let this lad go easily 😉”
The message “not for sale @mancity” was also posted in response to the speculation.
Other comments referred to an exaggerated potential asking price, with one supporter writing: “Mac Allister is available for sale-£400 million”
The same comment was posted again by another user.
At this stage, the information available concerns contact with Mac Allister’s camp and Manchester City’s interest rather than a formal bid or completed transfer. The midfielder is therefore being discussed as one of the possible alternatives should Rodri depart the Etihad Stadium in the August window.
