Atletico de Madrid have emerged as a potential destination for Ferran Torres, adding a new dimension to Barcelona’s complicated pursuit of Julian Alvarez.
Torres’ future at Barcelona remains unresolved while the Spain forward continues a media tour in the United States. He has attracted renewed attention after scoring the decisive goal in the World Cup final against Argentina, but he has repeatedly said he has not yet decided where he will play next season.
That uncertainty has left all possibilities open, with Paris Saint-Germain also understood to be monitoring the situation. However, the French club have not yet submitted a formal offer to Barcelona despite the sustained speculation surrounding their interest.
Barcelona are waiting for Torres to return to Spain and join first-team training next week. The player is expected to hold talks with sporting director Deco and manager Hansi Flick about his position at the club. Alternatively, the Catalan side could receive an anticipated call from Paris Saint-Germain containing an official proposal for the forward.
Atletico’s possible involvement could be significant beyond a straightforward attempt to sign Torres. According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Madrid club’s interest may become linked to potential negotiations with Barcelona over Julian Alvarez.
Barcelona have wanted to sign the Argentina international for some time, but Atletico have consistently resisted the idea of selling their leading goalscorer. That stance has made any deal particularly difficult to arrange.
Torres could now provide both clubs with a new bargaining point. His availability may give Barcelona and Atletico an additional way to discuss Alvarez, potentially helping to revive negotiations that have so far proved difficult.

For now, Barcelona continue to wait for developments from Paris Saint-Germain while assessing the possibility of Atletico entering the race for Torres. Any move by Atletico could become especially important if it coincides with fresh progress in discussions involving Alvarez.
Torres’ situation therefore remains dependent on several factors: his upcoming talks with Barcelona, the possibility of a formal offer from Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico’s stance on both the player and Alvarez.
