Rwandan football club Kiyovu SC have lodged a formal complaint with world governing body FIFA, accusing their head coach Francis Haringingo of breaching the terms of his contract.
The club, widely known as the Green Baggies, allege that Haringingo left his position before the agreed end of his contract, which was set to run until June. According to Kiyovu SC, the coach’s early departure constitutes a violation of his contractual obligations.
At the centre of the dispute is Haringingo’s reported move to rejoin Rayon Sports, one of Kiyovu SC’s traditional rivals. The switch has intensified tensions between the two clubs and raised questions about contractual enforcement within the league.
Kiyovu SC argue that the timing of the coach’s departure is particularly significant, given that his contract had not yet reached its conclusion. The club have now turned to FIFA in a bid to resolve the matter, seeking an official ruling on whether a breach has occurred and what consequences may follow.
The complaint highlights the increasingly formal and legal nature of disputes in professional football, where contractual disagreements between clubs and coaching staff are often escalated to international governing bodies. FIFA typically handles such cases through its dispute resolution mechanisms, which can impose sanctions or financial penalties if wrongdoing is established.
While Kiyovu SC maintain that the coach acted improperly, there has been no immediate public response from Haringingo regarding the allegations. It also remains unclear what terms, if any, were agreed upon between the coach and Rayon Sports prior to his reported move.
The situation underscores the competitive rivalry between Kiyovu SC and Rayon Sports, two clubs with a long-standing history in Rwandan football. Moves between such rivals are often closely scrutinised, particularly when contractual commitments are still in place.
As the case progresses, attention will turn to FIFA’s review process and whether it will find sufficient grounds to support Kiyovu SC’s claims. Any decision could have implications not only for the individuals involved but also for how similar disputes are handled in the region.
For now, the matter remains unresolved, with Kiyovu SC awaiting FIFA’s response as they pursue action over what they describe as an early and unauthorised departure by their head coach.
