Ajax are preparing to complete the loan signing of Germany goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Barcelona while also opening talks to take young full-back Jofre Torrents to Amsterdam.
Sources have confirmed that the ter Stegen loan is expected to be formally completed between Monday and Tuesday, following several weeks of intensive negotiations involving all parties.
The Germany international has been in Amsterdam since last Friday. He has completed his medical examination and signed the necessary documents, leaving only the official announcement before the move can be confirmed.
Neither club had issued a statement by Sunday, but the expectation inside both organisations is that the deal is now a formality. The announcement is expected no later than Tuesday.
Ajax’s discussions over ter Stegen have also led to interest in Torrents, with the Dutch club asking Barcelona about the possibility of signing the young left-back on loan. The approach was reported by the programme “Que t’hi jugues?”.
According to Marca, Ajax have enquired about a loan deal that would include an option to buy, while also seeking 50% of the player’s future rights.
Negotiations over Torrents remain at an early stage, however. Barcelona’s board is expected to resume contact with Ajax next week, when the clubs will discuss the details of a potential agreement more formally.
The 19-year-old is one of the options available to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick at left-back, alongside Alejandro Balde. Barcelona are also continuing negotiations over the return of Joao Cancelo.
Torrents came through La Selva del Camp academy and made four appearances for Barcelona’s first team last season. Three of those outings came in La Liga, while the other was in the Copa del Rey.
Barcelona are, in principle, open to loaning Torrents out so he can continue his development and gain more playing time. The defender remains under contract with the club until June 2028.
He was among 17 players from La Masia who travelled with the senior squad to the pre-season training camp at St George’s Park in England.
The two potential deals are at different stages. Ter Stegen’s move to Ajax appears to have been settled and is awaiting only formal confirmation, while Torrents’ future will depend on the talks between the two clubs next week.
Those discussions are expected to show how seriously Ajax intend to pursue the young defender and what conditions Barcelona would demand before allowing him to leave on loan. The Dutch club’s interest in Torrents emerged during negotiations for ter Stegen, giving Ajax a second potential deal to explore with Barcelona.
