Mohammed Al Owais says rejoining Al Hilal for next season is the best decision he has taken in his life, after confirming his return to the Saudi Pro League champions following a year away at AlUla.
Al Hilal announced earlier in the current summer transfer window that the Saudi Arabia international goalkeeper had agreed to come back to the club, having spent last season with AlUla in the Saudi First Division League (Dawri Yelo).
Al Owais, 34, had previously been on Al Hilal’s books from 2022, when he joined from Al Ahli and helped “Al Zaeem” win multiple domestic titles. He will rejoin a squad that has dominated Saudi football in recent years and is widely regarded as one of Asia’s strongest sides.
Speaking on Al Hilal’s official YouTube channel in a conversation with team-mate Kalidou Koulibaly, the goalkeeper explained why he was so determined to secure a return.
“When you are a star in Saudi Arabia, it is important to join the best team in your country,” he said. “But here we have the best club in Asia, which is Al Hilal, and this is the best decision of my life.”
Al Owais revealed he originally left the Riyadh giants in search of more regular game time, but said his ambition was always to come back once circumstances allowed.
“I left (in summer 2025) because I was not playing a lot,” he said. “But after the World Cup I thought a lot about my future, and I prayed to God to come back here again.”
The Saudi Arabia international added that he is targeting silverware immediately on his return to the club.
“I hope to have a good season with Al Hilal and to win everything,” he said.
Trophy-laden first spell at Al Hilal
Al Owais’ comments come after a successful first spell with Al Hilal, during which he lifted several major honours following his move from Al Ahli in 2022.
During that period he was part of squads that won the Saudi Pro League title twice. He also celebrated two triumphs in the King’s Cup (Crown Prince Cup of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques) and two victories in the Saudi Super Cup.
His performances cemented his status as one of the leading goalkeepers in Saudi football, earning him a regular place in the national team and a role at the World Cup.
Al Owais is now set to compete for the starting role in goal once more as Al Hilal look to build on recent domestic and continental success, with the keeper making clear that his focus is on contributing immediately to further trophies in Riyadh.
