Kalidou Koulibaly returns to full training as Al-Hilal receive defensive boost

Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has returned to full training with Al-Hilal, handing the Saudi Pro League side a significant boost ahead of the start of the new season.

The experienced centre-back resumed normal training on Thursday after recovering from a thigh injury, easing concerns over his fitness before the new campaign gets underway.

Koulibaly declared fit

Koulibaly took part in Al-Hilal’s latest training session after successfully passing medical assessments on the injury that had sidelined him during pre-season preparations.

His return also ends recent speculation over his physical condition, with reports suggesting the 34-year-old could be facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

The Senegal international’s availability comes as welcome news for Al-Hilal as they prepare for another demanding campaign.

Al-Hilal aiming for improved campaign

Al-Hilal will be looking to bounce back after finishing last season with only the King’s Cup, despite possessing one of the strongest squads in Saudi Arabian football.

The return of experienced figures such as Koulibaly is expected to strengthen the club’s challenge for both domestic and continental honours during the 2026/27 season.

Future remains unclear

Koulibaly remains under contract with Al-Hilal until the end of next season.

However, reports continue to suggest the defender could be registered exclusively for the club’s AFC competitions, although no official decision has been announced regarding his role for the upcoming campaign.

For now, the former Napoli and Chelsea defender has returned to full fitness and is available as Al-Hilal intensify preparations for the new season.
