Mamadou Sangare: Brentford exploring deal for Mali and Lens midfielder

Mamadou Sangare, the Mali international midfielder currently at Lens, is being linked with a move to Premier League side Brentford as the English club assess central options for the new season. The 24-year-old, who plays primarily in central midfield, is under contract with the Ligue 1 club until 30 June 2030, meaning any agreement is expected to require a substantial fee.

Sangare’s valuation is understood to be around €40m following a rise in status at Lens, where he wears the No 8 shirt and has become a key part of their midfield since arriving from Rapid Vienna on 20 August 2025 in an €8m transfer. Brentford are thought to view the left-footed midfielder as a candidate to add further control and physical presence in the centre of the pitch as they reshape their squad.

Born in Bamako on 26 June 2002, Sangare has built his reputation in European football across Austria, Belgium and France, including spells with Salzburg, TSV Hartberg and Zulte Waregem before his move to Vienna and subsequent switch to Lens. In Ligue 1 he has made 29 appearances, contributing three goals and four assists in 2,327 minutes, form which has helped elevate his standing in the market.

Sangare was part of the Lens side that lifted the French Cup in the 2025-26 campaign, adding a major domestic honour to an Austrian youth league U18 title won earlier in his career. With four years still to run on his deal in northern France, Lens are in a strong position should Brentford decide to firm up their interest in the Mali midfielder.
