Balzan FC have signed Nigerian striker Mohammed Marzuq Yahaya on a free transfer, bringing the 22-year-old centre-forward to the Maltese Premier League club after a short period without a club.
Yahaya has agreed a deal running until 30 June 2027, committing the 1.93m forward to Balzan for the next season. He arrives as a free agent following his departure from Czech side Pardubice in April 2026.
The Lagos-born attacker has spent the last few years building his career in Central Europe, featuring in the Czech second tier and cup competitions. Across league and cup appearances, he has registered goals in the FNL (also known as the Chance Liga), the MOL Cup and the Czech Football League, gaining experience in both starting and substitute roles.
Yahaya first moved to Europe with Slavia Prague’s under-19 side in 2022 after leaving Nigerian outfit KIFA. He then joined SFC Opava in 2023 before switching to Pardubice, where he was initially loaned out and later recalled, reflecting a period of frequent movement between clubs as he looked to establish himself.
His most productive spells have come in league and cup action in the Czech Republic, where he posted a steady scoring return over multiple competitions. That exposure to different tactical setups and levels of competition has given him over 80 senior appearances across league, cup and play-off matches.
By taking Yahaya on a free transfer and tying him down until summer 2027, Balzan have added a tall, battle-tested centre-forward to their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
