Newcastle agree €40m deal for Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba

Newcastle United have reached a major agreement with Monaco to sign 20-year-old midfielder Aladji Bamba in a deal worth more than €40m including bonuses.

The France-born, Guinea-origin player has been granted permission to travel to England to undergo a medical and sign a long-term contract with the Premier League club.

Bamba, regarded as one of the most promising young midfielders in Ligue 1, is set to become one of Newcastle’s biggest investments in a player of his age as the club continues its squad rebuild.

Medical and long-term deal planned

Bamba, who was born in Blois in central France, is expected on Tyneside in the coming hours after the two clubs finalised the main terms of the transfer.

Once he completes his medical examinations, the France youth international is due to sign what has been described as a long-term contract, in keeping with Newcastle’s recent policy of recruiting emerging talent on extended deals.

The transfer fee, in excess of €40m including performance-related add-ons, underlines the scale of Newcastle’s commitment to the player and reflects Monaco’s valuation of one of their brightest young assets.

‘A fantastic opportunity’ – Bamba on Premier League move

Speaking before leaving France for England, Bamba said he viewed the switch as a crucial stage in his development.

« C’est une opportunite fantastique et un grand pas en avant dans ma progression. Newcastle est un club historique avec une immense ferveur, et j’ai hate de decouvrir la Premier League tout en gardant une pensee forte pour mes proches en France et en Guinee. »

Translated, Bamba described the move as a “fantastic opportunity” and “a big step forward” in his career, highlighting Newcastle’s history and passionate fanbase as key attractions, while stressing that he remains emotionally close to his family in both France and Guinea.

Franco-Guinean talent on the rise

Bamba’s background and international status add to his profile as a rising European talent.

The midfielder, who holds French and Guinean heritage, has represented France at youth level and is considered a candidate for future senior international honours, whether with Les Bleus or Guinea.

At Monaco, his performances in midfield have attracted attention for his energy, technical ability and maturity despite his age, drawing interest from several clubs before Newcastle moved decisively to secure his signature.

Newcastle’s continued squad rebuild

The agreement with Monaco fits into a broader strategy by Newcastle’s owners to invest heavily in young players with high potential resale value and immediate first-team prospects.

Bamba is expected to compete for a place in the heart of Newcastle’s midfield, adding depth and dynamism to a side aiming to establish itself regularly in European competitions.

Final confirmation of the transfer will be subject to the successful completion of his medical and the formal signing of contracts. However, with an agreement already in place between the clubs and the player en route to England, Bamba’s move to St James’ Park is now close to being finalised.
