Algeria’s early exit from the North American World Cup has done little to cool interest in their leading players, with several Fennecs now at the centre of major transfer battles across Europe and beyond.
Despite going out in the last 32, individual displays have triggered a potentially record-breaking 2026 summer window for Vladimir Petkovic’s squad, involving contested price tags, salary clauses and moves to some of Europe’s biggest leagues.
Hadj Moussa at heart of €40m tug-of-war
At 24, Feyenoord right winger Hadj Moussa is emerging as the headline name of the Algerian mercato.
Signed from Belgian side Patro Eisden for €1.8m in the summer of 2024, his valuation has soared to more than €20m, with Feyenoord now believed to be demanding in excess of €40m to sanction a sale.
The Rotterdam club has already rejected several substantial offers, including a proposal from Saudi giants Al Hilal worth over €30m, while Al Ahli and Marseille have also expressed interest.
However, the player is understood to favour a move to the Premier League. Newcastle United and Aston Villa are viewed as the leading contenders, having held talks and closely monitored his situation. A recent “like” from Moussa on a post by an Aston Villa supporters’ account has further fuelled speculation over a potential move to Villa Park.
Moussa is under contract with Feyenoord until 2030 and has publicly stressed his commitment while he remains at the club. “Je suis encore sous contrat avec Feyenoord,” he reminded reporters before the World Cup. But both the player and his employers are now thought to accept that a departure is likely this summer.
Rafik Belghali attracts Serie A heavyweights
If Africa discovered Rafik Belghali at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the wider world took notice during the 2026 World Cup.
The right-back was one of the few Algerian players to perform consistently at a high level in the tournament, catching the eye of several clubs, particularly in Italy.
According to reports from Foot Mercato, Roma are pushing hard to sign the defender. They face stiff competition in Serie A, with Inter Milan also keen as they look for a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who has joined Real Madrid.
Belghali’s emergence adds another Algerian name to a list of defenders increasingly in demand across Europe’s top leagues.
Amoura’s future clouded by injury and relegation
Another major story concerns forward Mohamed Amoura, 26, whose situation has been complicated by injury and club relegation.
Amoura suffered an injury just before Algeria’s second World Cup match, forcing him to withdraw from the rest of the competition. At club level, his side VfL Wolfsburg were relegated to the 2. Bundesliga at the end of the 2025-26 season.
A contract clause triggering a 35% wage reduction in the event of relegation is now pushing the player towards the exit door. Wolfsburg are reportedly hoping to receive up to €50m for his transfer, a figure his representatives consider excessive and are trying to negotiate down.
His market value, which had peaked at around €32m only months earlier, is now estimated closer to €20m. Benfica, Everton and Rennes are all closely following developments, although the French side now face competition from clubs with greater financial firepower.
Other Algeria internationals on the move
Several other Algerian internationals could also switch clubs during this window:
– Ramy Bensebaini (Borussia Dortmund): The versatile defender, comfortable at centre-back or left-back, drew interest from Galatasaray in the winter. That move could be revived this summer, depending on his game time at Dortmund.
– Himad Abdelli (Marseille): Signed only in January, Abdelli could already be on his way out of the Velodrome. Marseille are seeking to raise funds and may opt to sell after a disappointing first six months for the midfielder.
– Rafik Guitane (Estoril): Now a regular starter in Portugal after a difficult start, the 26-year-old winger is in line for a contract extension but is also attracting attention from other clubs.
– Mohamed Amine Tougai (ES Tunis): The centre-back, suspended for a year by the Tunisian disciplinary commission following a league incident, is reportedly closing in on a move to Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli for a fee of around €1.7m.
