Botola Pro League adjusts fixtures to protect national team players

The Moroccan National Professional Football League (Botola Pro) has announced that the postponed matches from Rounds 10 and 11 will be rescheduled, following a brief period of uncertainty surrounding the fixtures.

The decision comes just hours after an earlier announcement had set the dates for the games, which prompted debate among clubs and fans.

In an official statement, the League explained that the revised schedule takes into account the interests of all participating clubs and ensures that players called up for national team duties can perform under optimal conditions.

“The National Professional Football League announces the rescheduling of the postponed matches of rounds 10 and 11 of the ‘Inwi’ Professional Championship, following the international break for national team commitments,” the statement read.

The need for the adjustment arose after several clubs exercised their legal rights under paragraph 6 of Article 20 of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s (FRMF) competition law.

This clause grants the League the authority to review and amend the match calendar in a way that balances competitive fairness, even if previous agreements had set the dates.

Sources within the League noted that the review was prompted both by scheduling conflicts and concerns over player availability.

Moroccan football has faced increasing scrutiny in recent months regarding fixture congestion and the impact on both domestic league performance and international representation.

By revising the dates for Rounds 10 and 11, the League aims to mitigate player fatigue and allow teams to field their strongest squads for key encounters.

This decision is particularly significant for clubs that have contributed multiple players to the Moroccan national team, ensuring those athletes are not overburdened.

While the League has confirmed the rescheduling, the full fixture list for the postponed games has not yet been released.

Officials have pledged to publish the detailed schedule through their official channels, including the Botola Pro website and social media accounts, once final arrangements are completed.

The move has been welcomed by several clubs and supporters, who had expressed concern that the earlier schedule could compromise player performance and team results.

Analysts have noted that the League’s approach reflects a broader trend in African football, where balancing domestic competitions with national team commitments remains a challenge.

As Botola Pro continues, clubs will now prepare for the adjusted fixtures while also managing players returning from international duty.

The decision underscores the League’s commitment to fairness, competitive balance, and the welfare of players, highlighting the ongoing evolution of professional football administration in Morocco.
