Ghana forward Prince Osei Owusu has rejected reports suggesting that members of his family wanted a share of his earnings if he secured a place in Ghana’s FIFA World Cup squad, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The footballer responded to rumours circulating on social media and other platforms, denying suggestions that he or his family had requested a percentage of any financial rewards, bonuses or income he could receive from representing Ghana at the World Cup.
Reports had alleged that the player would have to hand over 70% of his earnings if he was selected for the national team squad, but Osei Owusu has strongly dismissed those claims.
The Ghanaian forward said the allegations do not reflect reality and insisted that neither he nor his family had made any such arrangement or demand.
In a statement addressing the issue, Osei Owusu said the reports were fabricated and warned against accepting unverified information about his personal affairs.
“The claims that people posing as members of my family said I would have to hand over 70% of any earnings or bonuses if I made Ghana’s FIFA World Cup squad are completely false.
“These reports are fake news, and I strongly deny them.I fully reject and distance myself from all false statements, rumours, and misleading claims made in my name or on behalf of my family”, he wrote.
The player also made it clear that he does not associate himself with any statements or claims being circulated in his name or allegedly linked to his relatives.
He urged supporters, members of the public and the media to ignore the reports and instead rely on information shared through his official communication channels or trusted sources.
Osei Owusu’s response comes as players continue to attract public attention around issues connected to national team selection and international competitions.
The forward stressed that his focus remains on his football career and his ambition to represent Ghana whenever he is called upon to serve the country.
He also appealed for an end to the spread of misinformation, particularly regarding matters involving his family and personal decisions.
The player maintained that false stories can create unnecessary confusion and urged fans to be cautious about reports that have not been confirmed through reliable sources.
Osei Owusu reiterated his commitment to giving his best on the pitch and representing Ghana with pride, while distancing himself from the rumours surrounding alleged financial arrangements.
The forward’s statement was aimed at putting an end to the speculation and clarifying that the claims involving his family and World Cup earnings were not true.
As Ghana continues preparations and discussions around its national team setup, Osei Owusu said he remains focused on football and contributing whenever he receives the opportunity to wear the national colours.
