The Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the travel of Ana Cândida Évora, the mother of Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, following widespread speculation during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In an official statement released on Friday, the federation denied claims suggesting that individuals outside the organization were responsible for arranging Évora’s trip to the United States.
According to the FCF, the entire process was coordinated and financed by the federation in collaboration with FIFA as part of its commitment to supporting national team players and their families.
“The whole trip was handled, organized and undertaken entirely by the Cape Verdean Football Federation and FIFA, within the scope of our duty to support the athletes of the National Team and their respective families,” the statement read.
The federation also revealed that it received important support from FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the United States government in facilitating the visa process and travel documentation required for Évora’s journey.
The situation drew significant public attention after Vozinha disclosed that his mother had been unable to attend Cape Verde’s historic FIFA World Cup debut against Spain due to visa complications.
Despite the emotional circumstances, the veteran goalkeeper delivered an outstanding performance against Spain and was awarded the Man of the Match prize.
The FCF, however, expressed concern over what it described as misinformation surrounding the resolution of the matter.
The federation accused certain individuals of attempting to claim credit for the successful outcome despite having no involvement in the process.
“We regret that this act of solidarity is being targeted by disinformation and misappropriation by those who do not know the facts,” the federation added.
The governing body reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and called on both the public and the media to respect the privacy of Vozinha and his family.
The statement is expected to put an end to speculation surrounding Ana Cândida Évora’s journey and reaffirm the FCF’s role, alongside FIFA, in ensuring the goalkeeper’s mother can support her son during Cape Verde’s historic World Cup campaign.
