Amer Amer finished the 2025-26 Egyptian Premier League campaign as the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets after helping Ghazl El Mahalla keep 18 shutouts during the season.
The experienced goalkeeper produced one of the standout individual performances of the league campaign despite Ghazl El Mahalla enduring a difficult season that ended with the club finishing 13th in the table.
Amer played 32 of the club’s 33 league matches and was a central figure in the team’s defensive organisation throughout the season. His performances placed him comfortably ahead of the league’s other goalkeepers in the clean sheet rankings.
Mohamed Alaa of El Gouna finished second with 12 clean sheets, six fewer than Amer’s total.
The Ghazl El Mahalla goalkeeper also produced a high number of saves during the campaign. Statistics from the season show he stopped 72 attempts on goal, including 38 shots from inside the penalty area.
Although he conceded 24 goals across the league season, Amer’s consistency and ability to protect his side during tight matches became one of the few major positives for Ghazl El Mahalla.
Tight competition among league goalkeepers
Behind Amer and Mohamed Alaa in the rankings came Abdel Rahman Samir of Enppi, who recorded 11 clean sheets during the season.
Three goalkeepers shared fourth place with 10 clean sheets each: Amr Hossam of Wadi Degla, Mohamed Bassam of Ceramica Cleopatra and Ahmed El Shenawy of Pyramids.
The statistics underline the growing importance of goalkeeping performances in the Egyptian top flight, where several clubs relied heavily on defensive discipline during the campaign.
Amer’s achievement stood out not only because of the number of clean sheets but also because it came while playing for a side battling in the lower half of the table for much of the season.
Ghazl El Mahalla endure difficult campaign
Despite the goalkeeper’s impressive numbers, Ghazl El Mahalla struggled for consistency and ended the season in 13th place with 38 points from 33 matches.
The club also entered the record books for an unwanted reason after registering the highest number of draws ever recorded in a single Egyptian Premier League season.
Ghazl El Mahalla finished the campaign with 20 draws, highlighting the team’s difficulty in converting defensive stability into victories.
While the side often proved difficult to beat, their inability to secure enough wins prevented them from climbing higher in the standings.
Even so, Amer’s performances remained one of the defining stories of the club’s season. His league-leading clean sheet tally and consistent shot-stopping helped Ghazl El Mahalla remain competitive in many closely contested matches.
The goalkeeper’s form throughout the 2025-26 season is likely to strengthen his reputation as one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in Egyptian football after a campaign in which defensive resilience frequently proved decisive.
