Ivory Coast international Evann Guessand is facing an uncertain club future after Aston Villa reportedly decided against keeping the forward following a disappointing individual campaign.
The 24-year-old attacker, who recently made European football history by winning two UEFA club competitions in the same season, is now waiting for clarity over his next move despite remaining under contract with the Premier League club until 2030.
According to reports surrounding the player’s situation, Aston Villa’s management had expected Guessand to contribute directly to at least 10 goals during the season.
Instead, the Ajaccio-born forward finished with only two goals and one assist, a return considered below expectations and one that reportedly influenced the club’s negative decision regarding his future.
The situation presents a sharp contrast for the Ivory Coast international, whose season simultaneously included one of the most unusual achievements in European football.
Guessand began the 2025-26 campaign with Aston Villa, where he featured in seven Europa League group-stage matches and scored twice during the competition.
Those appearances later proved enough for him to qualify for a Europa League winner’s medal after Aston Villa went on to lift the trophy under UEFA eligibility rules.
In January, the forward moved on loan to Crystal Palace, where he continued his European season in the UEFA Conference League.
The Ivorian featured in six knockout-stage matches for Palace, including the final victory which secured the Conference League title.
That sequence made Guessand the first player in history to win two major UEFA club competitions in the same season.
Yet despite the historic milestone, his long-term prospects at Aston Villa now appear uncertain.
The player’s market value remains high, however, with Transfermarkt estimating him at around €28 million, suggesting interest from other clubs could emerge during the transfer window.
For many observers in Francophone African football, the situation highlights the demanding nature of elite European football, where even players involved in trophy-winning campaigns can still face difficult evaluations based on individual statistics and consistency.
Guessand’s case has also attracted attention in Ivory Coast because the striker remains part of the national team setup heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
While uncertainty surrounds his club career, the forward is expected to join the Elephants in the coming weeks for preparations ahead of the tournament in North America.
The Elephants continue building a squad capable of competing on the world stage, and players with European experience such as Guessand are viewed as important assets despite fluctuating club fortunes.
