Zamalek dismiss fears over CAF exclusion amid licensing concerns

A board member of Zamalek SC has rejected speculation suggesting rivals Al Ahly SC could replace the club in African competitions, insisting reports surrounding Zamalek’s CAF licensing situation have been exaggerated.

Board member Nayra Al-Ahmar said recent media discussions created a misleading impression regarding the club’s position, stressing that Zamalek remain actively engaged in resolving all outstanding administrative and financial matters linked to the African club licensing process.

According to Al-Ahmar, the club’s leadership moved quickly after securing the league title, reopening the licensing file and beginning procedures to address pending requirements in an organised manner.

She emphasized that every club has the right to resolve administrative or financial issues through official channels and argued that Zamalek deserve the same opportunity without premature conclusions being drawn about their continental participation.

The official also criticised what she described as disproportionate media attention on Zamalek’s internal challenges, suggesting that similar situations involving other clubs do not always receive equal scrutiny.

Al-Ahmar called for greater balance and professionalism in football coverage, urging observers to avoid singling out specific clubs while overlooking comparable cases elsewhere in the game.

The comments come amid growing debate in Egyptian football regarding club licensing regulations and qualification procedures for CAF competitions ahead of next season.
