Toulouse extend contract of DR Congo midfielder Efuele until 2028

Toulouse FC have tied down DR Congo youth international Frédéric Efuele to a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2028, confirming their continued belief in the midfielder’s long-term potential.

The extension, announced on March 22, sees the versatile midfielder commit for an additional two years as Toulouse continue to invest in young talent within their development structure.

Efuele arrived at the Ligue 1 club in 2021 after a difficult spell marked by injury struggles.

At the time, his early career momentum had been disrupted, limiting him to just nine appearances and 555 minutes of football in a challenging season.

Despite those setbacks, Toulouse were convinced by his technical ability and early promise, choosing to integrate him into their long-term development plans.

The club’s decision to extend his contract reflects their continued trust in his progression.

Born in DR Congo and representing the country at U20 level, Efuele has steadily worked his way through the Toulouse youth and reserve system.

His development has included key milestones, including winning the French U17 championship with the club’s academy side in 2022.

He has also taken on leadership responsibilities within the club’s structure, captaining the National 3 team on the final day of the season in Castanet, a moment seen internally as a sign of his growing maturity.

After recovering from earlier injury setbacks, Efuele has been aiming to rebuild his form and consistency across recent campaigns.

His performances during the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons were particularly encouraging, with appearances extending up to National 2 level, where he demonstrated his ability to compete at a higher standard.

Although injuries have again affected his most recent campaign, restricting him to nine matches with the reserve team, Toulouse have opted to continue their support of the midfielder’s development.

The club’s decision to offer a contract extension highlights their long-term planning approach, particularly with young players progressing through their academy system.

A statement from the club confirmed the renewal and emphasised their confidence in his future contribution.

“Frédéric Efuele extends his contract! Frédéric Efuele extends with FC Toulouse until 2028.

“Plagued by injuries, the former Congolese U20 international has played 9 matches this season with the reserve team. He still retains the confidence of the Toulouse club. ”
